Norton Cancer Institute’s Genetic Counseling Services is staffed by physicians and trained genetic counselors with master’s degrees who specialize in cancer genetics and hereditary cancer syndromes. Providing genetic counseling, cancer risk assessments, education and genetic testing for cancer patients and/or individuals with a family history of cancer, our specialists are dedicated to helping you understand your potential risk for developing certain types of cancer.

Andrea Lewis, M.S., CGC
Cancer Genetic Counselor, Genetic Counseling Services
Andrea Lewis received her Bachelor of Science degree in biology with a concentration in genetics from Cornell University in 2003 and her Master of Science degree in genetic counseling from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro in 2005. She obtained board certification from the American Board of Genetic Counseling in 2007.
Lewis is a member of several professional organizations, including the National Society of Genetic Counselors, Familial Cancer Risk Special Interest Group and the Collaborative Group of the Americas on Inherited Colorectal Cancer. Since 2009, she has served as co-coordinator of the Louisville FORCE Outreach Network, a networking and support group for local individuals with hereditary breast and ovarian cancer syndromes.
Lewis joined Norton Cancer Institute in 2005 and established the Genetic Counseling Services program for the organization. She has conducted a number of community and provider education events and, in 2008, helped establish Norton Cancer Institute as a rotation site for students in the University of Cincinnati’s genetic counseling training program. She provides genetic counseling and testing for hereditary breast and ovarian cancer, hereditary colon cancer and other rare hereditary cancer syndromes at her office in the Norton Healthcare Pavilion, 315 E. Broadway.
Michelle L. Alabek, M.S.
Genetic Counseling Services
Michelle L. Alabek, M.S., received a Bachelor of Science degree in biology from Virginia Tech and a Master of Science degree in genetic counseling from Virginia Commonwealth University. She completed a cancer genetic counseling fellowship at the Fisher Center for Familial Cancer Research of Georgetown University.
Alabek is a member of several professional associations, including the National Society of Genetic Counselors and the National Comprehensive Cancer Network. She has participated in numerous professional enrichment courses, including the Intensive Bioethics Course at Georgetown University.
Alabek joined the Norton Cancer Institute Genetic Counseling Services office at Norton Suburban Hospital in 2010. Her services include genetic counseling and testing for hereditary breast and ovarian cancer, colon cancer and other rare hereditary cancer syndromes. |
